Such a fresh and honest story in a sea of extremes - a whiplash between hustle culture and four hour weeks. I’ve definitely drank the kool-aid of the latter, but am starting to see more and more how digging into the uncomfortable can actually be the path to enjoyment.

Now I’ve just gotta figure out the whole “doing it” thing 😅

I appreciate your sincerity and candor, Joe. I, too, drank the kool-aid on the four hour weeks and have discovered the value in working on hard but meaningful projects. The irony is that the kind of guys like Tim Ferriss who write books like that have never worked a four-hour workweek, at least not for long. But it sure sells well. Best on the whole "doing it" thing. It requires a range of skills, including discipline, persistence, letting go, learning, and ongoing self-care, to name a few.

I really enjoyed reading this, Ryan. I left the hustle and bustle of working for organizations some years ago and as health allows I have really loved self employment. I loved your line; "Keep finding that point between effort and ease." I find so much joy in helping people who have a desire to heal and grow. Much like a teaching job I just adored, I often feel like I'm simply doing what I love, and there's a playful element to doing what we're born to do.

I’m so glad you shared this, Susan. It’s fun to hear about your work, entrepreneurship, teaching and doing what you love. I agree about the playfulness, which I continue to cultivate online this year. May we both keep having fun.

Great story, felt like a scene from a movie.

I've heard a lot of people say that gamifying your job is a good way to find meaning in it. Which sounds kind of like what you did, trying to beat the job, rather than letting it beat you.

And I definitely agree with the sentiment that there's a time to push and a time to pull back.

Thanks.

I’m still learning how to tell stories, so it feels great to read your feedback, Ben.

I think the folks who say that are onto something. I tend to take work too seriously, and gamification can help lighten it. Work is a marathon, not a sprint.

Grateful for your comment and all the success with your newsletter.
