Very difficult subject to deal with and it seems to be becoming much more prevalent. I thought it was pretty original when I first heard the phrase, "fake it until you make it." Then found out how much benefit there was in doing so, but now I hear it all the time. Currently interviewing for positions and I still find it hard even after 13 years to drill it into my head to ask questions, as much as possible first, to try and curb assumptions. It's far more impressive to interviewers to anticipate potholes instead of "knowing" the answers. My absolute worst trait is too much information which is self evident here, but try as I can, I can never just answer the question and not digress a lot of times.

Thanks for reading,

Erik

I find this phenomenon humorous, but I hear you on all counts, Erik. I know what it's like to make assumptions rather than just asking the person! And I'm masterful at not answering a question directly and succinctly. I think much of this has to do with not being completely okay with who we are and wanting to present an image that we think people will like more. I once asked a friend why she ran if she didn't like it. She replied, "Because I don't wan to get fat." The honesty of her answer stunned me.
